introductory series:
Introductory Series. This series
is the perfect choice for students new to yoga, the Iyengar method,
or those who want a strong foundation for their practice. This class
is based on the Iyengar’s preliminary course and focuses on
classical poses that will provide the basis for the practice of
yoga. Students develop flexibility, strength, and body awareness,
learn proper alignment, and are taught the use of props. It is strongly
recommended that students commit to the entire 7/8 week session
in order to gain maximum benefit. Taught by certified Iyengar teachers.
Students are welcome to repeat
the introductory series as many times as they wish before progressing
to the Level 1 class.
This series is for students who
understand the fundamental foundations of Iyengar Yoga and are ready
to apply those fundamentals to some new asanas. The Level
1 syllabus incorporates the asanas from the introductory series
and adds additional postures to build your practice. New concepts
are introduced to help deepen the experience of the asana.
Students who have studied at
level 1 for a while may be ready to move on to level 2. The
pre-requisites for Level 2 are knowledge of the Standing Asana and
Shoulder Stand in the middle of the room. The asanas introduced
include head balance and additional back extensions.
