"Yoga offers us techniques
to become aware, to expand and penetrate, and to change and
evolve in order to become competent in the lives we live and
to initiate sensitivity and receptivity toward the life of
which we are still only dimly aware"
B.K.S. Iyengar,
from Light on Life, p.22, 2005.
Welcome to Iyengar Yoga in Sarasota. Classes for beginning
and intermediate practitioners are offered at the Rosemary
Court Yoga Center.
According to the yogic tradition and guidelines of Mr. Iyengar,
yoga asana classes focus on correct body alignment, sequencing
of postures and timing, allowing the student to learn and
practice harmoniously. Props (belts, blocks, blankets, etc.)
are used when needed to facilitate learning and to help the
body into the correct positions. Through the practice of asana,
students develop strength, stamina, stability, concentration,
and inner calmness.
Instruction in Pranayama (prana is “life force”;
yama is “discipline” or “control”)
is provided in intermediate classes. This teaches the student
control of the breath through the practice of deliberate rhythms
of inhalation, exhalation and retention. Through the practice
of pranayama, the student further develops the skill of withdrawing
the senses and calming the mind.
In every class, the instructors weave in the philosophy and
spiritual wisdoms of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali as well
as contemporary teachings. This enriches the students experience
and gives greater insight to the power of the path of Yoga.
Join us today and experience the
benefits of yoga!
